It was a real delight to MC the highly impactful
hashtag #TeenTalk conference for teenagers across Cork in association with
Cork County Council.
Sheila Naughton,
Niamh McDonnell and
Karen Weekes spoke at the event and I interviewed
Billy Holland.
Here is a summary of the takeaways:
๐ฃ๏ธ It’s so important to reach out and talk to somebody.
๐ชง Be aware of and spot the signs; whether that’s with yourself or others
๐ Find your passion.
๐โ๏ธSelf-discipline comes from motivation.
๐ Note what you’re grateful for, the things that you like about yourself, the words that describe how you want to feel and set an intention for each day.
๐ If you’re waiting for, or want, an intervention to happen because something is going on in your life that you don’t like, it’s in your power to make decisions.
๐ฎ๐จ Breathe.
๐โ๏ธ Exercise.
๐โ๏ธ You can change and manage your mindset.
๐ซฃ Look for role models that make you want to emulate some element of their character.
๐ฅฐ Be authentic to everyone as you don’t know who is looking up to you.
๐ฅบ Not everybody is able to talk about mental health in the same way. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try.
๐ Instagram stories and question stickers are super for gleaning feedback and insights from teenagers.
Thank you to Niall,
Jenny O' Flynn and all involved for making the day a success. Thank you also for the opportunity to work with you on this really important event.
