A Deep Dive into Inflation

Iavjot Kaur • December 7, 2022

Our last EdCo Positive Economics Webinar on "A Deep Dive into Inflation" was very popular among our viewers!

According to the Central Statistics Office, “the latest publication for the Consumer Price Index (CPI) shows that prices for consumer goods and services in October 2022 increased by 9.2% on average compared with October 2021. This is the highest rate of inflation since June 1984 when inflation was 9.7% and follows an increase of 8.2% in the year to September 2022. Prices have been rising on an annual basis since April 2021, with annual inflation of 5.0% or more recorded in each month since October 2021".

During the webinar, the viewers learnt the following about inflation:

  • Where does inflation come from?
  • What is the Irish inflation rate at the moment?
  • What is driving Irish inflation?
  • How does Ireland compare to the rest of the world?
  • What are different countries doing about inflation?
  • What are inflation expectations in the future?
